This is a gentle reminder that polls are open today (May 7th) until 10pm. Whoever is elected to represent the Saffron Walden Division (which comprises Saffron Walden, The Chesterford, Littlebury, and Wenden’s Ambo) will be the Councillor responsible for defending our interests during this period of amalgamation, and ensuring that Saffron Walden and villages continue to be well served by the County of Essex for the remainder of its lifetime as a Council.
This has been a tough campaign. Some have fought this election based on national issues, as if this were a dummy General Election, but this election is about our local representation, our local services, and the important task of ensuring we are not underrepresented at County Hall.
Saffron Walden Audley Ward will also be holding a by-election to elect a new Town Councillor. I am also standing in this election, as the ruling group, Residents for Uttlesford, presently only has two opposition Councillors to scrutinise their policies, which is unhealthy for our local democracy. A third opposition member would bring further balance to the Council and alternative views to the table.
